STATE OF PLAY

Although I often prefer working on square panels, I decided to venture into unfamiliar dimensions for this special collection. As a result, I felt quite challenged with a few of the panels, especially this one! In art, the panel or canvas size can quite drastically affect the final composition. In order to not feel intimidated, I brought an air of play and spontaneity to this work. I began with a layer of off-white spray paint, upon which I added funky shapes and cheerful notes. "State of Play" was one of those paintings that very much painted itself. — Elyse Katz
